According to the Census 2022 AD. Islam is the largest religion in the Bosnia and Herzegovina, with (55.9%). The Second most wide religion is Christianity with (41.1%) that forms Eastern Orthodox Church with the highest adherents along with Catholic Church and the others form remaining like Protestant, Mormons etc. But also a minor of Bosnians & Herzegovians have No Religion (Atheist, Agnostic and Not Stated ) category with (1.7%) and Others remaining includes Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Bahaism & many etc.
Bosnia & Herzegovina is Secular under constitution. Islam came in
Ottoman Era. Now a day, Islam is the largest religion in Bosnia & Herzegovina. 45% of Herzegovinian and Bosnian Muslims described themselves as Sunni Muslims while 47% described themselves as just Muslims.
Before Islam and Christianity, Slavic Paganism along with many ancient religions was being practiced here. But nowadays Bosnians & Herzegovians have latest religious Traditions like Islam & Christianity.
Proto-Indo European Polytheism was the ancient religion of Stone Age Period that came in 3500 BCE.
Iron Age: (1200 B.C. TO 600 B.C)
Illyrian Period:
From 8th century BC, Illyrian tribes evolved into kingdoms. The earliest recorded kingdom in Illyria (a region in the western part of the Balkan Peninsula inhabited by the Illyrians, as recorded in classical antiquity) was that of the Enchele in the 8th century BC. The era in which we observe other Illyrian kingdoms begins approximately at 400 BC and ends at 167 BC.
Hellenization:
In the Neretva Delta in the south, there were important Hellenistic influence of the Illyrian Daors tribe. Their capital was Daorson in Ošanići near Stolac, the main center of ancient culture in B&H. Daorson in the 4th century BC was surrounded by megalithic. Daors made unique bronze coins and sculptures.
Roman period:
Conflict between the Illyrians and ancient Romans started in 229 BC. In the year 168 BC, the land of Illyrians became the Roman province of Illyricum. Rome completed its annexation of the region in 9 A.D, ending a three-year rebellion of Illyrians against Romans. In the year 10 A.D., Illyria was divided and the northern strip of today's Bosnia along the south side of the Sava River became part of the new province of Pannonia.
In the Roman period, Latin-speaking settlers from all over the Roman Empire settled among the Illyrians and Roman soldiers were encouraged to retire in the region.
Jewish Under Ottoman Empire:
Jews in the Ottoman Empire were generally well-treated and were recognized under the law as non-Muslims. Despite some restrictions, the Jewish communities of the Empire prospered. They were granted significant autonomy, with various rights including the right to buy real estate, to build synagogues and to conduct trade throughout the Ottoman Empire.[10] Jews, along with the other non-Muslim subjects of the Empire, were granted full equality under Ottoman law by 1856.
