He is known in English as Titian. He was an Italian Venetian painter during the Renaissance and was considered the most important member of the 16th-century Venetian school.
Most modern scholars believed Titian was born between 1488 and 1490, but a large percentage of them agreed that he was born in 1488.
Titian was the greatest painter of 16th-century Venice, and the first painter to mainly have an international clientele.
During his long career, he experimented with many different styles of painting that embodied the development of art during his time.
Titian was born in Pieve di Cadore, a small town at the foot of the Dolomites on the Venetian side of the Alps.
