Triple Alliance World War One - GCSE History Revision

In 1882, Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy agreed the Triple Alliance. The three countries promised to defend each other, if one was attacked. This alliance created suspicion in other European countries and Britain and France were concerned over the growing power of Germany. In 1907, Britain, France and Russia agreed their own alliance, the Triple Entente. This split Europe into opposing groups. By August 1914, Germany and Austria-Hungary were at war with Britain and France.
