The Battle of Vienna (1945) – The Soviet Conquest of the Austrian Capital in the Vienna Offensive

Published
The Battle of Vienna (1945) was part of the Soviet Vienna Offensive and can be considered as a forgotten WW2 battle. Unlike the Battle of Berlin the battle for the Austrian capital in WW2 is something you don't hear much about. East of the city was the South East Wall (Reichsschutzstellung) which wasn't a so-called 'wall' but more a series of batteries. Axis formations from the east made their way west from Hungary. Battered army units had to defend Vienna. Large parts of the city were destroyed in this forgotten WWII battle.
