Operation Sea Lion - Germany's Secret Landing Craft

By June of 1940, Adolf Hitler’s conquest of Europe seemed almost inevitable, and all that stood between him and total European domination was the United Kingdom. Fortunately for him, the British were not in good shape to hold back the German blitzkrieg, as their expeditionary force had been brutally defeated during the invasion of France.

Britain knew they were next in line for an invasion, and Hitler was certain that Prime Minister Winston Churchill would sue for peace to avoid any more bloodshed.

Still, if Britain refused to agree to an armistice, Hitler was prepared to execute Operation Sea Lion, an amphibious invasion of the United Kingdom and the destruction of what the Nazi high command considered Germany’s greatest threat.

Thousands of landing ships were built, troops trained, weapons prepared, and even plans to decide who would govern the new Nazi-occupied territory were outlined.

If successful, Operation Sea Lion would mark the absolute triumph of Nazi Germany in the West and the beginning of the 1,000-year Reich, changing the world as we know it...
