Live: French president Emmanuel Macron addresses the European Parliament

Published
As his country is in charge of the EU’s rotating presidency for the next six months, Emmanuel Macron discusses the priorities of the French presidency of the EU with members of the Parliament and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Under the motto “Recovery, Strength and a Sense of Belonging”, the country wants to stress that a European unified response is the best strategy to fight the health crisis, the rise of aggressive foreign powers and climate disruption.

France plans to give priority to negotiations on issues such as the new Digital Services and Markets Acts; the establishment of an adjustment system for carbon pricing at the EU’s borders; and on common minimum wages rules.
