German Oompah Music - Not Just Oktoberfest - German History & Tradition 1

Published
German Oompah music may be well known around Oktoberfest and the biergarten, but it has deep roots in German history and culture.

Oompah music surrounds several horn-centered instruments played in many Eastern European countries along with accordions and a few other less predominant instruments. Oompah consists of brass bands and gets its name from the heavy thumping sounds of the tuba which is one of the most important instruments for an Oompah band.

Although oompah music is definitely well known around the biergartens, German history and tradition can have its roots dated all the way back to the original Oktoberfest in 1810. Which was held for the wedding of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese from Saxony-Hildburghausen.
