French Troops arrive in Romania in Ukraine Antonov AN-124 - NATO RF

The first French soldiers and vehicles have arrived in Romania in a French Air Force (Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace) Hercules C-130 and in a twist of circumstance the troops were also transported by a Ukrainian Antonov AN-124 Heavy lift aircraft, now helping NATO response forces during heightened tensions between the West and Russia as its forces continue its assault on Ukraine.

The French Troops are part of the NATO Response Force (NRF), which was activated for the first time in history for defensive purposes.

These are the first of many French forces to arrive in Romania

The soldiers, part of the French Army’s Chasseurs alpins unit (“Alpine Hunters”) arrived at Mihail Kogălniceanu International Airport on 28 February 2022. They are part of the NRF, which is being deployed to the eastern part of the Alliance in response to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. The NRF ensures that the Alliance continues to have the speed, responsiveness and capability to defend NATO territory and populations.

On 25th February, the North Atlantic Council activated the NRF for the first time for defensive purposes.

The Antonov AN-124-100M Registration UR-82027 seen in the footage is operated by Ukranian Based Antonov Airlines a subdivision of Antonov Company whose address is in kyiv, Ukraine. The company has a production site at Kiev Gostomel were unconfirmed reports state the companies AN-225 the worlds biggest plane was severely damaged by Russian Shell Fire
