Hello! In this video I explain a bit about the Italo-Turkish War, a little discussed war that set the stage for the balance of power in Europe for the upcoming world war. The borders were directly influenced by this war, and the diplomatic ties that would guide the sides of the First World War were at least laid bare thanks to this war.

Italy after unification loved their memory of the Roman Empire, and in particular Scipio as defender of Rome and tamer of Africa was a popular piece of propaganda. In the age of Imperialism Italy attempted to establish colonies for itself but never really managed to gain many, thanks to a late unification while other European states were already present in Africa. Italy, feeling left out, sought out to create it's own big colonial empire, setting it's sights on Libya and leading the way to the Italo-Turkish war...
