Biden fumbles words during welcome speech for French President Macron

Published
Joe Biden has arranged a lavish White House banquet for Emmanuel Macron, the visiting French president, which promises to be a meeting of big cheeses in more ways than one.

In a bold move, given France’s gastronomic prowess in these areas, First Lady Jill Biden will make a point of serving American cheese and Chardonnay wine during the meal, which will be served under a large tent in the gardens, on tables laden with candlesticks and flowers in the colours of the two countries.

The meal may go some way to alleviating tensions that erupted at the very start of the Macrons' three-day visit, when the French president blasted Mr Biden's "very aggressive" move to enact a vast Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
