Battle of Chouigui Pass: The First Clash Between US And German Tanks In WW2

Published
The battle of Chouigui Pass in Tunisia, between the Germans and the Americans was their first conflict and it had occurred in a remote corner of Tunisia's countryside in the Mediterranean theatre of the war and took place in November of 1942.

The United States troops had just arrived in North Africa to take part in the Mediterranean battlefield while The Germans were preparing a counter-offensive.

The American M3 tank first encountered a German tank in the Battle of Chouigui Pass and was fortunate enough to win by recognising the enemy’s weaknesses.

The US did not have a resounding win, the losses of the two sides were close.

Most crucially, for the first time in history, the Americans successfully fought German tanks in desert terrain and forced them to withdraw.
