On the afternoon of September 8th, 2022 Queen Elizabeth II of the UK died peacefully at her Balmoral estate. She was 96 years old and had reigned for a record shattering 70 years. The plans for her funeral “Operation London Bridge” had been in place for decades and timed to the minute. But a dignified, somber, and precise state funeral was not always how royals of the past were buried. From grave robbers, to wax effigies, pick-pockets to run away horses, let’s recount the history of Royal funerals.
